FAMI-QS certification is a feed safety and quality management system certification (including good manufacturing practices) for the sector of specialty feed ingredients. FAMI-QS certification is based on the FAMI-QS Code of Practice for specialty feed ingredients.

The FAMI-QS Code of Practice provides requirements for implementing measures necessary to ensure feed safety and quality of products manufactured by processes, as defined by FAMI-QS. The Code covers requirements on Good Manufacturing Practices, on the HACCP programme and suggestions on continuous improvements to the design, management of operations and risks with a goal of maintaining feed safety and quality.

FEED SAFETY - QUALITY - INTEGRITY

FAMI-QS is a preeminent quality and feed safety management system for the sector of specialty feed ingredients and their mixtures. With our collective experience, knowledge, and expertise, we proactively respond to the emerging challenges for the specialty feed ingredients and their mixtures.

SCOPE

The scope of FAMI-QS is specialty feed ingredients. A specialty feed ingredient is defined as any intentionally added ingredient, not normally consumed as feed by itself, whether or not it has nutritional value, which affects the characteristics of feed or animals/animal products and animal performance.

Specialty feed ingredients can be obtained via the following production processes or a combination thereof:

The Feed Chain Activities covered by FAMI-QS are the following

Production – The processes and methods used to transform tangible inputs (raw materials, semi-finished goods) and intangible inputs (information, data) into goods. Resources are used in this process to create an output that is suitable for use or has exchange value.

Trade – The action of buying, handling, storage, transporting and selling goods and services.

KEY BENEFITS OF FAMI-QS Certification

FAMI-QS certification is based on the FAMI-QS Code of Practice.

The aim of this Code of Practice is to ensure safety of Specialty Feed Ingredients by:
- minimizing the risk, that adulterated Specialty Feed Ingredients enter the feed chain;
- enabling an Operator to implement the objectives of the feed hygiene regulation and
- providing measures to ensure that other applicable feed safety regulatory requirements are met.

Applies to Operators at all stages from the first placing on the market, including imports. FAMI-QS Code covers the following activities: Production and Trade.

Attest that the production process is taking place under hygiene conditions in order to minimize and possibly eliminate the risks and pathogens entering to the Feed/Food Chain.

FAMI- QS deal with reasonably foreseeable hazards.

FAMI-QS GMP requirements are aligned with the requirements of:
- ISO/TS 22002 Part 6 -Feed PRPs (adapted to the needs of the sector) - FSMA CGMP Animal Food

Entire list of ingredients or mixtures covered under the FAMI-QS Certification is available to the public.

APPLICATION FOR FAMI-QS Certification

Any Operator willing to be FAMI-QS certified can send an application to FAMI-QS using the application form which is available on the FAMI-QS website.

The ten (10) steps outlining the certification process are detailed below:

STEP 1: Download a copy of the FAMI-QS Code of Practice, the Feed Fraud Prevention and Defence Module and Rules for Operators. Read the documents carefully.

STEP 2: Evaluate your readiness and perform an internal audit with the help of the FAMI-QS checklist. A copy of this document is available upon request to the FAMI-QS Secretariat.

STEP 3: Identify your scope and fill in the Application form available on https://fami-qs.org/scheme-documents/application-information/#application. Submit the form via email to fffs_apply@fami-qs.org in order to register for FAMI-QS Certification.

STEP 4: FAMI-QS will evaluate the application and contact you to inform you of the approval decision. If your application is accepted, an invoice for the membership fee is issued. Upon receipt of the payment, an Approval Letter is sent to you.

STEP 5: To obtain the FAMI-QS Certificate, contact IRCLASS representative to schedule and begin preparation for your audit. The Approval Letter sent to you by FAMI-QS has to be provided to IRCLASS

STEP 6: The initial audit is conducted in two stages:
• Stage 1: evaluation of the Feed Safety Management System (FeSMS), documentation, and scope
• Stage 2: verification of the implementation of the FeSMS

STEP 7: Once the audit is concluded, IRCLASS will submit the audit documentation to FAMI-QS for validation.

STEP 8: After revision of the audit documentation and its findings by IRCLASS, a certification decision is made. If the assessment is successful, a certificate is issued to the organisation.

Note: Alongside the audit, the applicant organisation must successfully complete the two trainings provided by the FAMI-QS Scheme under the First Time Right initiative. The FAMI-QS Certification Procedure and Accredited Certification and FAMI-QS Certification System and Code Version 6.0 trainings are both mandatory.

STEP 9: FAMI-QS reviews the audit documentation, training records and payment of membership fees and validates the data for registration. After validation of the audit documentation, the organisation is included in the online directory of certified organisations on the FAMI-QS Website

STEP 10: After the initial certification, an annual surveillance audit will apply. The certification is valid for 3 years. After the cycle of 3 years, a recertification audit will take place.
